  Lola Hat Alpargatas With Navy Ribbon

  Made from an ultra-flexible woven raffia, the Alpargatas has a bucket crown that perches slightly higher on the head than most hats do. The brim is top-stitched and finished with a fringed edge that suggests endless sunny days spent beneath the shade of a palapa. A long grosgrain ribbon is threaded through eyelets to serve as a chin tie. Knot it saucily beneath your left ear, or just let the hat hang nonchalantly down your back as you stroll from beach, to market, to festival.

  Lola Hats combine artisanal techniques with ingenious design for luxurious hats that are super chic and supremely comfortable. Designer Lola Ehrlich was born in Holland but grew up in Paris. She moved to New York where she worked as a crafts designer, textile conservator and magazine editor. She opened a shop specializing in one-of-a-kind hats. All of her hats are made with vintage blocks or new blocks handcrafted by an Italian artisan based in Paris who regards each wooden mold as a unique creation. Each hat is stretched on a block and then steamed and pressed by hand. Trims are sewn on by hand in Lola’s Bushwick, Brooklyn studio.
